When I graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic back in 1998, I thought I had it made. I not only had “license in hand” but also had a new office freshly built thanks to my father-in-law.
Unfortunately, chiropractic college didn’t prepare me for the real world of business. Yes, it did a fantastic job in educating me as a chiropractor but failed to provide me with the tools of success that I needed in business. Consequently, I struggled and barely survived for several years before I found AMC.
Believe it or not, it doesn’t have to be this way. Matter of fact, Dr. Jeremy Brubaker shares his experience after joining AMC under their Right Start program. Let’s listen to what he has to say …
I had known from a very young age that I was going to do one of two things when I grew up. I was going to play ball for the Pirates, or become a chiropractor.
My father while he was in his early twenties injured his spine and had major difficulties until finding chiropractic. He developed a bulged/herniated disc in his lower spine and nothing but chiropractic truly helped get him through.
During that time, I had suffered with chronic ear infections, with the all too typical scenario of antibiotics and several sets of tubes in the ears by age 6.
One day my father mentioned to his chiropractor that I was having this clicking sound in my neck when I moved it. Long story short, the doctor took some films and found an atlas problem. Shortly after beginning care the neck issue was gone. The interesting part of the story is that from that point on, there were no more ear infections, tubes or antibiotics. Thinking that was pretty cool, I knew what I was going to do when I grew up.
Needless to say, when graduating from Palmer, I was ready to go help the world get healthily and stay that way. To add to the excitement of graduation, my wife (also a chiropractor) and I had just had our son and moved back to my hometown to start practicing.
Now I had studied hard, learned a great technique, and observed high volume, successful offices. The problem was, like most who have started from scratch, I couldn’t reproduce what I had done in school or observed at other offices. We had lots of ideas, but really no clue where to start, and make it work right out of the gate.
We thankfully got some wise council from a very close friend and found AMC. We hadn’t made too many mistakes yet (other than blindly moving to a town without doing any research on it, signing a lease on a building, and not having any kind of plan…oh boy). Praise the Lord, the market was good and the building worked out very well.
With AMC we had a proven A-to-Z system to open our doors, manage the office, staff, and patients in the most thorough and efficient way. The practice took off from our very first month under AMC’s guidance, we hit the black ink, and within a year, eclipsed the of success that most doctors in our town practicing over 20 years could not even dream of.
I can honestly say that our lives would be very different without AMC. AMC is more than a management company to us. They have been a blessing to us, and thousands others in our profession. AMC continues to carry the torch and mission to help chiropractors and chiropractic reach sick people and restore health, the whole reason any of us decided to become doctors in the first place!
Thank you, Dr. Brubaker, for sharing your insightful story! I’m sure you hit a chord with many chiropractic students. Hopefully they’ll heed your advice to avoid the mistakes and pitfalls that so many of us made prior to joining AMC.
